RELIQUARY – CASCIA
The project takes the form of the creation of the cascia, the wooden box containing a series of basic sculptural tools for working with wood, intended as a reliquary. Treated and crafted with extreme care, these objects emulate the fragility of the living material with which they are made. The cascia is a symbol of mastery because it materializes the time that each craftsman has dedicated to its creation through the collection of all the objects it contains, thus allowing, years later, to tell the career, character and habits of its owner through his or her personal tools. The cascia, an entirely nomadic carpentry subject to generational passages, represents a manifesto of intent on the importance of taking care of materials, as a gift, and above all, the materials of the place in which we live.
DOMESTIC STONES
Tangible and eternal memories, dry stone walls have represented one of the most significant elements of human presence for centuries, so much so that in 2018 UNESCO declared 'the art of dry stone walling' an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. To prevent this craftsmanship from dying out, it is not enough to simply preserve it: it must be actively used, initiating a cycle of production and construction of this building technique which, compared to more contemporary methods, has a higher production cost. The project takes shape in four architectural parts, forms derived from the use of dry stone walls, emphasizing the responsibility and dissemination of this technique within a domestic environment: wall, plane, cube, and stairs."
